Resources in IES Antonio de Mendoza

At IES Antonio de Mendoza we are really committed to the internationalisation of our centre and to the preparation of our students for a globalised world. Therefore, we have spent more than 6 months preparing this ambitious project.

We consider it vitally  important that our students widen their knowledge about Europe and its most important institutions. To this effect, more than 300 students, all bilingual staff, compulsory secondary education, vocational training, adult education and school community in general have taken part in this project.

We wanted our students to reflect upon their role within the European dimension so all bilingual subjects have worked on this same topic along this academic year and we exhibited these projects during our III Bilingual Fair on May 19th.

Just to give you some examples:

The younger students from 1 CSE have elaborated European Institutions Bookmarks, Travel Guides and Visual Reports. They have learnt and played some European National Anthems  and they have been focusing on Animals and Rocks in Europe in the following subjects; English, French, Spanish Language &  Literature, Music, Geography & History and Biology & Geology.

The 2 CSE students have elaborated impressive web pages devoted to some European countries where they have compiled all the information concerning Europe; travel guides, food, main landmarks, historical events, European institutions and many more. Besides, they have also played and learnt some European National Anthems.

The 3 CSE students have contributed to the project through the elaboration of “healthy and mediterranean balanced Christmas menus” , “healthy eating infographics”, a hilarious role play concerning “Brexit” and an “European Union Timeline”.

Our 4 CSE and 2 CSE students have focused on the main European Institutions with the elaboration of amazing posters and videos explaining them.  Moreover, three students from 4 CSE  have been “Reporters for One Day» and have recorded an impressive  video broadcasting our III Bilingual Fair.

Adult education students have created wonderful visual reports about some European countries.

Vocational training students and teachers have delighted the entire school community with the elaboration of some tasty and delicious European dishes: moussaka, crepes…

One of the most exciting points of the project has been the elaboration of a massive Europe map where the students have been placing some of the most relevant facts about each European country in terms of population, official flags, number of square kilometers, main landmarks, capital cities and QR codes redirecting to the web pages that our students have created about different European countries and to several videos tackling some historical events.

Another remarkable part of the exhibition has been the set up of different stands concerning different European countries. These stands were presented by some of our best students to the rest of the school community;

  1. BALKAN EUROPE: Greece, Croacia, Bulgaria, Romania
  2. MEDITERRANEAN EUROPE: Slovenia, Malta, Cyprus
  3. BALTIC EUROPE: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania
  4. SCANDINAVIA EUROPE: Sweden , Finland, Denmark
  5. BENELUX: Belgium, Holland/The Netherlands, Luxembourg
  6. SPAIN
  7. FRANCE
  8. THE BRITISH ISLES
  9. PORTUGAL
  10. ITALY
  11. CENTRAL EUROPE: Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary
  12. CARBON FOOTPRINT & TECHNOLOGY EXPERIMENTS: Lapbooks, Inphographics, videos
  13. VOCATIONAL TRAINING: “Tasting Europe”

“Let’s Know Europe” has been one of the most hard-working and fascinating projects we have been focusing on this year. We owe it thanks to the epic effort and magnificent work of our teachers,  students and school community. Thanks to all of them!!!

The result was amazing!
